...committee thought that to erect and maintain such a memorial would require $300,000, of which $150,000 would be expended in the erection of the building and the remainder invested to pay the running expenses of the house. Owing to the hard times, when the committee was appointed, no formal appeal for subscriptions was made. Nevertheless voluntary subscriptions to the amount of $80,000 were received. Mr. Courtney will be on hand again to coach, and in order to give the 'varsity good practice, the class of ninety - seven has decided to maintain a crew, which will probably prove a very strong one. At the recent meeting of candidates for the 'varsity crew, forty - three men came out. There were also ten candidates for the position of coxswain, and it is expected that many more will soon hand in their names...
