Jason Robards, Jr. has the central role of Quentin, surely one of the longest in all drama. Robards' work in the past has varied from a transcendent Hickey in O'Neill's The Iceman Cometh to an abysmal attempt at Macbeth. But here he is playing at his best--a performance of enormous power and rich detail. At first I felt his diction was too monochromatic. ...recorded in those three years: average earnings in manufacturing topped $100 a week; after-tax income of individuals exceeded $400 billion in 1963; corporate profits before taxes passed $50 billion last year. To withstand...

"When we let freedom ring," he cried, "when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing...
Darryl Zanuck's The Longest Day has been running for more than 14 months, and it appears to be the biggest moneymaking black-and-white picture in history. Its worldwide gross was $25,275,000 in its first year; and by last week the figure had climbed to more than $27 million. The film's original cost was $10 million...
