During the past week the team has been given much practice on defensive work in anticipation of Yale's heavy attack and at last the defense seems satisfactory. The men play fairly low in the line, and the secondary defense is better than it has been at any time this year. This was well shown in the last open practice where the runner of the second eleven was often thrown back after getting through a hole in the line...

Yale started work this fall with the best material for line positions that has come out in years, but, as for several years past, the back field material was not at all promising. Still all the candidates have proved to be hard workers and the men have shown unusual aptitude in mastering the fine points of the game. The abundance of excellent material for tackle positions and the comparative weakness of the back field suggested the experiment of trying Hale at full-back. This was done early in the season and has proved entirely successful. The development of the line...

...second half the Sophomores kicked off and Ladd brought the ball back to the middle of the field. Here 1902 punted to the Sophomores' twenty-yard line. Noyes then made a poor punt and the Juniors obtained the ball on the twenty-eight-yard line. Using tackles back formation, 1902 forced the ball to the Sophomores' three yard line, but were there held for downs. Noyes punted and 1903 got the ball on their own twenty-five yard line. They then pushed down the field, although three substitutes were put in, and by the aid of ten yards...

...first part of the practice was punting, Sawin kicking to Daly and Kendall, with Campbell and Hallowell running down the field. Stillman and Ellis also made some long twirling punts. No line-up followed, but both regular men and substitutes ran through signals for twenty-five minutes. The self-control of the men was perfect; there was no fumbling or missing of signals. Lewis had the forwards in good shape, and they started quickly and hard. The backs were slow at first, but improved perceptibly under coaching. Ellis showed up very well, both in carrying the ball and in helping...
