...Boyd-Carpenter was born in Ripon in 1869. He has secured degrees from several English universities, and has worked for a time as a journalist. His chief interest, however, has been centered on social and industrial questions, he having worked for a time with the navvies on railway construction and during the building of the Manchester Ship Canal.
