However, everything changed when the Dismemberment Plan came on stage. Despite the violence implied by their name, the Plan are, like Death Cab, an upbeat emo band. Unlike Death Cab, they are loud, energetic, complex, irreverent and eclectic. The band consists of Travis Morrison (lead singer and rhythm guitar), Jason Caddell (lead guitar and keyboard), Eric Axelson (bass guitar and keyboard) and Joe Easley (drums). Each of them played a strong role in the sound of the band and the leadership position seemed to pass back and forth between them over the course of the show...
...without bringing any soul to them. A man whose best work was relatively schmaltzy and oft remembered more for the lyrics written by others, Hamlisch just seems ill-suited to the project. A better choice for producing jazzy period music with dark undertones might have been the young composer Jason Robert Brown...
April 25th—Just as many Yankee fans had feared, Jason Giambi goes down with a hamstring injury and is forced to DH much of the rest of the year. Nick Johnson takes over at first and goes on to wins a gold glove in his rookie season. This Yankee team is just too good—even the bench is back to 1996 form. We’ll be hearing from these Bronx Bombers come October...
