...Herrera's biomorphic felt wall sculpture, "Behind the House I," is the demonic overextension of romanticism's untouched sublime, displaying a terrifying kudzu-like growth which crowds the visual plane with drooping, sinewy forms. David Akiba's superb nature photographs depict a similarly infernal tangle of branches, reminiscent of Jackson Pollock. Roxy Paine's naturalistic miniatures, as exacting as neoclassical gardens, reckon with human pollution: a plot of weeds behind glass is littered with wine bottles, candy wrappers and used condoms. And Michael Ashkin's model-like sculpture "No. 104" depicts a haunting aerial view of an industrial plant-human...
This is a deceptive message! For one thing, Chan is a comic foreigner, not a real action hero like Samuel L. Jackson. For another, when was the last time anyone heard him described as sexy, or even attractive? Jackson's appearance, which will take place at the Oxford Union in February, was brokered by Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, Oxford alum, author of Kosher Sex and frequent Howard Stern radio guest. The two were introduced through mutual friend Uri Geller, famous bender of spoons. "I went to meet...
Supporters have crooned that it's the other five percent that matters. Well, you can kiss even that five percent goodbye. All of Lieberman's centrist leanings have been ditched for the position of number two yes-man. In 1995, Lieberman was attacked by Jesse Jackson as "irresponsible" for his bold statements against affirmative action and Proposition 209, the California initiative against racial preferences. Lieberman said that "the current system of group preferences has to end. For after all, if you discriminate in favor of one group on the basis of race, you thereby discriminate against another group...
