A professor at the Harvard Divinity School has expressed interest in the drive, and members of the greater Boston community have also asked about getting involved, she said.
But administrators say Harvard academics aren't up for grabs. Many donors have been involved with Harvard for years or have some personal connection to the University. The presence of alumni overseas is growing. And the University monitors gift acceptance and usage closely.
"Although these units are being considered for the initial move, other operations in HCL may eventually be involved," she added.
"Change does come, even at Harvard, and we're going to try and make a good as process and get as many people involved as we can," she said.
