...time goes by, I have less and less interest in acting in movies," Gibson admits. "It's like a hobby. It isn't the hunger I had before." Instead, he's looking for directing projects. He had been planning to direct "Hamlet" onstage with Robert Downey Jr. in Los Angeles before Downey was arrested on drug-related charges on Nov. 25. "He would knock your socks off," says Gibson, sounding sad and frustrated. "I don't think even he knows it. I hope he gets it together...

...questionable. The path to political power appears to pass through a forest of ethnic rivalry rather than cohesion, and the political parties remain divided along ethnic lines. Houphouet's success in leading Cote d'Ivoire lay in his understanding of the ethnic diversity of the country. His successors have instead played up ethnic tensions in their bids to retain power, and the disenfranchisement of the vast majority of Ivorians in this electoral process has been ignored in favor of short-term political stability...

The entire middle section of the movie is devoted to Dunn's deciding whether to believe Elijah's hypothesis about the accident. ...unexpectedly robust Buchanan vote was the earliest hint of madness in the post-election haze of November 8. Thousands of voters complained that the ballot's confusing design had led them to punch hole No. 4, for Pat Buchanan and Ezola Foster (odd, certainly, for a heavily Jewish community) instead of hole No. 5, for Gore and Joe Lieberman. (The ballot design had been approved by a Democrat, who was trying to enlarge the type for the benefit of those same largely elderly voters...
