...Crimson baseball prospects, already marred by probation and belated snowstorms, received another jolt yesterday when J. C. McGlone '26, slated for regular second baseman, was badly injured during infield practice and had to be assisted off the field. A ball was hit to Jenkins so near second base that he stepped on the bag instead of tossing the ball to McGlone. The latter, slowing up suddenly and attempting to get out of his captain's way, twisted the knee that he injured in football last fall...
Every indication, however, points to a practice game this afternoon, if the weather predictions hold true. Coach Slattery is very anxious to see the sets of infields that he has been using lately in action. The first team infield this afternoon will probably be composed of: Campbell, McGlone, Jenkins and Slayton, with Field, Bullard Keene and Mann as the alternate combination. These two groups have been working together lately and are the likely choice for this afternoon's practice game, unless Hill and Hammond who have been practicing for several days now, are in condition to break into the line...
...first-string infield remained intact with Captain Jenkins at short stop, Slayton at third, McGlone at second, and Campbell at first. There was a noticeable improvement over the work of the day before particularly in the smoothness with which Jenkins and McGlone teamed together around second base...
...second infield group found Mann at short stop, Hammond at third, Knowlion at second, and Field at first. The shifting of Hammond to third may mean nothing at all, but it gives the winter-leaguers who had expected to see him at his old position, second base, something about which to speculate. Further speculation is in order as to where F. S. Hill, an absentee yesterday, will be tried. He is considered to have a good chance to break in at either second or third...
Coach Slattery continued non-committal except for repeating his warning of two days ago that the present combinations are purely of a tentative, experimental nature. In order to miss no possible bets, he extended the infield work to the entire squad in anticipation of the first cut which, however, will probably not come until next week...
