A quarterback kick did not succeed and after a short gain through the line Putnam punted to mid-field, Howard running the kick back 5 yards. Failing to gain through the line, Pennsylvania punted to the 10 yard line. Putnam returning it 30 yards on the next play. Again Pennsylvania could not gain and punted to the 4 yard line where Putnam caught the ball, instead of letting it roll over...
