Statistics on corruption are by nature difficult to gather. However, with a system that generates almost by design a tangled web of conflicts of interest, we should not be surprised by the legal horror stories that result. One Texas defendant was assigned as his defense lawyer a former district attorney who had once prosecuted him; furthermore, the attorney was known to have been a cocaine addict, the information having come to light after he was involved in a drug-influenced traffic accident on the way to a fundraiser for the judge who would later appoint him as defense counsel...

...search and seizure, Harvard Yard Operations went through every first-year dorm to confiscate all incendiary appliances ranging from rice cookers to coffee-makers. Although the inspection wasn't entirely unannounced, it did catch many first-years by surprise. Some students recounted horror stories of waking up to find an inspector in the middle of their room. Other students who were out of their room returned to find items missing, without any note explaining what was taken or where to retrieve their items...

Little did we know. After weeks of endless looking, I cried my eyes out. Never had I seen such ugliness. Growing up in Scandinavia is a real treat when it comes to design. Wherever you go, there are perfect shapes, materials and, above all, quality. I have noticed changes in the U.S. in the past few years. Things that I bring back from my trips...
