...does Harvard claim the "championship"? Would she assume the title even if it were her due? We sincerely trust not; in this country of "champion pie-eaters," "champion walkers," etc., etc., we should hope that no gentleman or set of gentlemen would aspire to be called "champion" anything. As we understand it, Harvard proposes to send her eight, as Columbia did her four last year, merely as a college enterprise, and, without any regard for "championships" or "representative" college crews, to try if either of the English colleges can do in 1879 what they succeeded in doing...
...matter, on Saturday, Monday, or Tuesday evenings next. The registration list will close at ten o'clock Tuesday evening, the 29th, and it is of course understood that no one can vote unless his name is on the list. The matter is worth some trouble, and we hope that none will fail to present themselves before the Aldermen, if they have received a final refusal from the city clerk. The clerk, by the way, has had a consultation with Professor Thayer, of the Law School, and has lately modified some of his former decisions...
...different colleges of this country are now holding their athletic sports, but as yet no remarkable times have been made. We shall publish, at the end of this year, a comparative table of the times at all the American colleges, and we hope to see Harvard stand very high on the list. No college in America has the facilities for athletic sports of all kinds that we have, and that better time is not made at our meetings is simply disgraceful. However, better things may be in store for us in the future...
