Wilbur and Orville Wright made their first flights at Kitty Hawk, N. C., on Dec. 17, 1903. For more than 20 years, the machine they used has been faithfully guarded, kept intact. Last week, Orville, the surviving brother,* announced that he was presenting this relic of man's first flight to the Science Museum at South Kensington, London, where a large collection of historic planes and engines already exists. Mr. Wright naturally seeks greater safety against damage and fire than his own home affords. But why a foreign museum ? Why not the Smithsonian Institution in Washington...

...only a few months since Caillaux, a hawk-nosed, bald-pated man with an aristocratic bearing and a pair of dark, shrewd, inquisitive eyes, was liberated from the banishment to which he was sentenced in 1920 by the Senatorial High Court (TIME, Dec. 1). While he is thus occupied, his fancy is caught by a realist's dream of fair woman - wry little Leora. The satire is swift, sure, great in its age, and Leora, being of life, will outlive...

...KEYS OF THE CITY-Elmer H. Davis-McBride ($2.00). Splay-jawed, hawk-nosed St. Elmo Pence stands for pep, punch and prosperity in Hollisburg, Hollis County, Ind. He has all the best property, none of the better instincts. Colonel Oliver Perry Morton Hollis and his dark, haughty daughter, Ruth, represent the town's historical background. They have the better instincts, but their property is bred out. A nice, crude, straightforward narrative is contrived by dragging in a hero-tramp with a fraternity pin, two trig scoundrels right out of Horatio Alger, a sleepy attorney who makes small-town small...
