Crew work this year is being conducted on a plan somewhat different from that of previous years. The underlying idea is to give every man every possible opportunity to demonstrate his ability. With this in mind, there was no effort made last fall to grade the crews. There were some fourteen crews on the University squad at the beginning of fall rowing. Work this spring will be conducted along the same lines as prevailed this fall. There will be no attempt to grade University crews until absolutely necessary. ...Strictly speaking the assistance offered by Phi Beta Kappa men should not be called tutoring: it is rather advice. Presumably a man elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Society has done work distinctly above the average grade in his courses and may be expected to have got more than the average return from them.
