...snakes lie warming in the sun. Finally, we swim into the Gordon, where the two rivers meet; a tradition, our guides assure us, though a painful one, for the Gordon, its waters released from a huge dam upstream, is even icier than the Franklin. The Gordon is flat and featureless in comparison, and by the time we reach the jetty where we're to be picked up by a yacht the next day, we're already missing the Franklin's language of fury and flow. On at least six occasions between April and early July, satellites spotted Iranian IL-76 cargo planes being loaded with wooden crates at Sunan. The frequency of the flights was unusual?normally no more than two flights a year...
...sculptural arrangements of Kendra Barron ’03 also required a great deal of thought, though her titles act more to elucidate than to inspire questions. Her medium is dolls—small, featureless bodies sewn from fabric ranging in color from dark brown to silver to light gray. Given the “Afro” title, the silhouetted figures may be intended to evoke voodoo and bocio dolls, which serve in part to protect their creator from the tortures portrayed...
