...perhaps unprecedented for The Crimson to say this, but we hope the city and the College treat the Lampoon with some leniency. The Lampoon claims that the repeated false alarms at the castle have been due to a faulty fire alarm. (Although, of course, that wouldn't explain the burnt newspaper the fire investigator found after the May 16 call to the 'Poon.) The Lampoon's current predicament is funny, in a hapless, pathetic kind of way, but their antics aren't so grave that the editor of the magazine deserves to have a police record for arson...

More difficult to explain are the recent designs of Grammy winner CARLOS SANTANA. Despite the fact that his taste in footwear has thus far gone largely unheralded, the singer announced last week that he would debut his own line of shoes. Brown Shoe Co. While my heart goes out to those mothers whose children were killed through the misuse of guns [NATION, May 15], to simply blame the gun is a cop-out. Few parents take the time to explain the seriousness of a gun. When I was young, my father took me to a target range and under close supervision allowed me to fire a gun.
