Today 25,000 barrels of Barco oil flow daily through the pipe line. Next year they expect to step that up to 50,000, with an eventual top of 70,000 barrels after all seven pumping stations are in. The oil yields 49% gasoline on straight run, double that under cracking processes (ordinary black oil yields no better than 24% gasoline on straight run). How much of it lies hidden in the upper Catatumbo basin nobody knows. The companies have until August 1941 to stake out their final claims. Then half of the Barco reverts to the Colombian Government...

...practice featured 45 minutes of defensive scrimmage against Skip Stahley's Wildcats. The Yardlings presented one team to face the A team and another for the B outfit. Don McNicol impersonated Wild Bill Hutchinson of the Green, and gave the Varsity a pretty fair idea of what to expect in the Stadium tomorrow. Earlier in the afternoon, Harlow conducted the squad through a long drill on pass defense and offense. Today's workout will probably be only a tapering off process, and Harlow may give a few more definite indications on some of the doubtful starting posts in the lineup...

The result is high adventure worthy of Dumas combined with the trip-hammer pace of a first-rate detective story.
