At Harvard, some of these events led to the establishment of what would eventually become one of most lauded African-American studies departments in the country.
On the one hand, being affiliated with an institution that is reputedly elitist, exclusive, ultra-liberal and an integral part of the Eastern establishment could prevent a candidate from ingratiating himself with the masses.

Although it seems perfectly constitutional for the government to contract with religious groups to provide social services, many religious charities use the offer of services as bait for a proselytizing effort.
