Plans were announced to undertake what Sir Ernest Shackleton once described as "the last great adventure in the history of South Polar exploration," the exploration of the 5,000,000 sq. mi. in the Antarctic Continent between the Ross Sea and the Weddell Sea, three-quarters of which has never been seen by man.
