...being cut down to size. Short calls it a one-man show - but five terrific performers are on hand to share the spotlight (and on occasion upstage him). He bills it as the story of his life - troubled childhood, years of hoofing in Broadway chorus lines, the inevitable drug-fueled crash and rousing comeback - only most of it isn't true. His voice cracks at the big note in his opening number; his brother from Canada pops up in the balcony to complain that Marty is being unfair to the family; and he confesses that, when it comes...
...Food and Drug Administration may have ended a three-year health-policy dispute when it approved the "morning-after pill," Plan B, for over-the-counter sale yesterday. But fallout from the political feud surrounding Plan B will play out for months. Democratic Senators Patty Murray and Hillary Clinton dropped their objections Thursday to confirming Andrew von Eschenbach, acting FDA commissioner since September 2005; the Senators had vowed to stall von Eschenbach's nomination at the committee stage until the emergency contraception was made available over the counter. ...recent immigrants. The mayor argues that illegal immigrants drain city resources, even for minor items such as police responding to a noise complaint, and cost taxpayers money in the form of additional strain on schools and hospitals. But he says illegal immigrants bring much more serious trouble, such as drug dealing and even murder. As an example, he points to two men facing murder charges in Hazleton for the May 10 death of Derek Kichline, who prosecutors say are in the U.S. illegally - though it's still not clear to police why Kichline was shot to death on a Hazleton...
