This evening in Upper Boylston, Professor Cooke will give the third of his illustrated lectures. He will take for his subject. "Rome," and his descriptions of the noted buildings and spots of interest in this celebrated city will, doubtless, be of the same entertaining and instructive nature which has marked the two previous lectures of the course. The views which will be shown are of so varied a character that no student at all interested in the art or history of ancient or modern Rome can afford to miss this lecture...

...benefit and convenience of students taking special courses in college, which are in general use. The duty of cataloguing the new books, and of adding a host of old ones to the authors' lists, is indeed an arduous one, and Mr. Winsor has accomplished a task which will doubtless bring him well-deserved thanks. But still the library, perfect as it now is sorely in need of one thing which will render it of more importance than ever electric lights. The arboretum will doubtless become to the university and to the Pacific slope what the Arnold Arboretum here in Boston is to be to Harvard University and the northern Atlantic slope. Senator Stanford has decided to devote to the arboretum as much space as is needed to contain every tree that can be made...

The alumni of the school ought to feel an especial interest in the men, many of whom will be in Harvard during the next few years, and will doubtless take part in her contests with other colleges. The Roxbury Latin School has set an example in instituting indoor meetings that we should like to see followed by other schools about Boston...

...carried on during the early spring, as the roads are not necessarily always bad. Although, properly speaking, it is a fall sport, yet I think that runs could be held to great advantage in the spring. These runs, providing that the H. A. A. saw fit, would doubtless be a benefit to the long-distance runners of the Mott Haven team. Of course the H. A. A. is all-powerful in taking the initiative in this branch of athletics, but as has been suggested, in case the H. A. A. would not undertake to hold some runs this spring...
