Football and bigotry seem to go hand in hand among some West German youth gangs. Fans for Dortmund's Borussia soccer team regularly sing Nazi songs and chant Heil, Hitler! in the stands and terrorize immigrants after matches. At pressent, 37 members of the group are being investigated on charges of racial incitement, theft, assault and breach of the peace. When West Germany played Turkey last November in a qualifying match for this year's European championships, police posted 6,000 men at West Berlin's Olympic stadium. Half the women were draped in body-length black cloth, the other half in white. Some of them carried hand-made crosses, others beat drums and pounded 10-ft.-tall bamboo poles in time with their slow march. The 150 women, who had walked more than 200 miles from Dortmund, West Germany, led a 1,000-strong parade near NATO's Brussels headquarters last Saturday to mark the 38th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima. Police investigating the reports surprised two men and a woman blazing away with pistols at a newspaper pinned to a tree. The trio turned their weapons on the police, killing one officer and wounding another in the thigh. The wounded cop managed to shoot two of the attackers, who were later identified as Michael Knoll, 27, and Angelika Speitel, 26, both members of the terrorist Red Army...

...vary their daily schedules (making it difficult for terrorists to set traps for them) and are accompanied everywhere by bodyguards. (That did not help Schleyer. His three bodyguards were killed when he was captured.) Even those who are not likely to be targets of terror are affected. Observed a Dortmund barber: "They're going to hit again?somewhere. It's so terrible not to know where and when...
