Unfortunately for U.S. planners, El Salvador, a beautiful country of lush vegetation and picturesque mountain gorges, is currently one of the most violent lands in the world. An estimated 20,000 Salvadorans have been killed in the past two years alone. As many as 1,000 are murdered or disappear each month.
