Indeed, how many bands can proudly say that marionettes, an accordion, confetti, Planet of the Apes and a glockenspiel are important, if not necessary, parts of their live act? The show started with a frenetic accordion-based rendition of the current single "Dr. Worm," from their new album Severe Tire Damage: Greatest Hits. The accordion was heavily exploited throughout the night, with several instances of polka interludes, and such songs as "Subliminal" benefiting greatly from the unique instrumentation...
...forget the speeches last Tuesday, the confetti and that awful, foot-high award that baseball made up just so Bud Selig could have a reason to be onstage. (The Commissioner's Historic Achievement Award? Did someone come up with that during the game?) Forget that apple-pie groundskeeper kid who caught the ball, for which somebody had offered $1 million, and gave it up straightaway. No, instead, look at the details. After McGwire hit the home run (see attached photo of the historic event), it turned into a Little League game. The excited new record holder forgot to touch first...

The special effects are nothing short of amazing--the gods' wrath, especially the destruction of Pentheus's house, is truly frightening, and appropriately loud. An excellent lighting scheme also works to create a variety of moods, from raptured to tense to apocalyptic...
...last few numbers were punctuated with incredible pyrotechnic displays that completely lit up the sky. The encore brought both the simply classic and the fantastic to a maximum. While the group played "Brown Sugar," one of their most beloved singles, the air filled with gigantic geysers of confetti, which completely blanketed the stadium. Throughout all of this, the simple, pure rock and roll that is the Rolling Stones never seemed to be at odds with the lavishly flamboyant motif of the concert. It all worked. It all provided plenty of satisfaction
