...Rome episode is the saver, with Italian movie clown Roberto Benigni effusively confessing his sexual adventures (with a pumpkin, a sheep, a sister-in-law) to a shocked priest. And the glimpses of the cities, beautifully shot by Frederick Elmes (Blue Velvet), suggest there might be stories to complement the ghostly landscapes. But Jarmusch gooses his fine performers to overact in close-up, as if to compensate for the paucity of event. The result is something like the ultimate minimalist international co- production. All those places to go, and hardly an inviting cab in sight...

From the minute that they meet, the personalities of the two protagonists complement each other. Initially, Adam has a hard time sharing his territory with a "long-haired creature," and finds her proximity to him disconcerting. In time, each learns to depend on the other. The two characters establish a congenial rapport--having agreed on the fact that they were the only two creatures who could talk--despite all their disagreements about whether something was a "pickerel" or a "swimmer" or whether Eve was "raining" or "crying...
...acting is spontaneous and technically excellent. Brad Rouse and Jennifer Giering shine in their roles as Paul and Elsie. Their rich voices complement convincing character portrayals. George Torbay brings boyish enthusiasm and a distinctive British accent to his wonderful portrayal of Rommilly's father, James. And Nancy K. Anderson lends the character Sarah a haunting persona and a soaring voice. Katie Guillory, Michael Stone, Richard Similio and Steve Peterson are equally impressive with their strong stage presences...
Kienzle is delightful as the complex Lady Sophy, and Rubin and McGovern magnificently complement her performance in one of the most demanding roles in the show. McGovern and Rubin's portrayal of the princesses is as flawless as their beautiful voices. Erick Hanson as the King amazes the audience, and his versatility in emoting irrationality, earnestness, fear and dependence does not escape notice...
