...scientists, Drs. Smierkase and Butterbrod, of the skeleton of a fish large enough to have swallowed Jonah. Toronto papers refused the yarn, for "Smierkase" and "Butterbrod" too transparently mean "soft cheese" and "butter bread." However, at the Fundamentalist convention, the clever writer found his opportunity, sent the manuscript without comment to a Dr. Brown, who based his main argument for the authenticity of the Jonah story on this "discovery." Since it contains not a word of "war scare" claptrap, there is room upon its vivid pages for enough striking fact and comment to burst the covers off an average volume of like heft. Yet Mr. Bakeless' thesis is expressible in a few lines, which he modestly quotes from General Tasker H. Bliss...
