...hour after departure, the first helicopter set down gently in an area not far from Beirut while its gunship hovered overhead protectively. The killers were met by waiting Israeli agents, who drove them to a safe house in the Beirut suburbs. From there, a one-word code message was flashed to an Israeli monitoring station, informing Mossad that the team was in place and Operation Caesarea...

...Canada (the so-called nuclear suppliers club) secretly gathered in London for their second meeting this year. The Bonn-Brasilia full cycle deal was apparently on their minds; it is believed they reached a consensus for drafting new controls for the transfer of nuclear supplies and technology. A new code, for instance, might force nuclear equipment buyers-like Brazil-to permit very strict inspection of all their atomic facilities. Moreover, representatives of the suppliers club decided to meet every three or four months until a new system of tightened safeguards is developed...

The first and possibly the worst was Ezzel-ino da Romano, the 13th century despot of Padua and Verona. "Here for the first time," wrote Historian Jacob Burckhardt, "the attempt was openly made to found a throne by wholesale murder and endless barbarities...

...Philippines as "a beautiful and richly endowed country" whose people were "industrious and valiant." Teng wasted no time in getting to China's chief international concern; in his final address he noted that both China and the Philippines were opposed to "big-power hegemonism," China's code word for Soviet expansionism. Indeed, since the Communist triumph in Viet Nam, the Chinese have apparently become more concerned than ever about Soviet influence in Asia. As the major supplier of arms to North Viet Nam, the Soviets have more influence in Hanoi than Peking has, and the Chinese are fearful...
