...Monica Lewinsky scandal seems to have all of the ingredients needed to undermine the President. Unlike Whitewater, these allegations are simple to understand. And unlike campaign finance improprieties, this case is so sordid that, for a time, CNN was the dirtiest channel on cable. Most importantly, though, unlike the previous charges regarding Clinton's libido, this one can be respectably pursued under the protective blanket of the pursuit of justice. In short, Lewinsky should be a dream-come-true for Republicans...

...Monica reading the poems the President gave her, when she wasn't trapped playing strip poker with the prosecutor last week? Holed up in her Watergate apartment, could she bear to watch herself all day, all the time on CNN, as old lovers denounced her, pundits dissected her and the President's defenders dismissed her? Or did she fall back on old comforts, watch Days of Our Lives? Could she tell the difference? Could...

Pity the children. For they have watched CNN and are unsettled. At least they damn well ought to be. First rule of politics: Don't do anything that frightens the horses. In brief, the NAOC, headed by Makoto Kobayashi, had been strongly opposed to a bid by the FIS to raise the start of the downhill event in Nagano by 120 meters to 1,800 meters. According to CNN, Kobayashi stated that doing so would "break environmental laws by putting it into a national park which covers part of the top of the mountain above the current downhill course...

...only a feeding frenzy if we lead with Monica, right? Perhaps that's why rain footage from both coasts dominated everyone's ten o'clock shows. Unlike CNN, which REALLY likes weather news, CNBC's Brian Williams skipped away after the obligatory eight minutes and rated Kenneth Starr by comparing his record to that of other special prosecutors throughout history. He ran a respectable second, but as Susan McDougal pointed out in her "Dateline" interview (rerun in full Wednesday as a filler for Brian), Starr's success is strictly Triple-A and hasn't made it out of Little Rock...
