Keep in mind that the last three rushing leaders in the Ancient Eight have played for title-winning squads (Clifton Dawson/Harvard ‘04, Nick Hartigan/Brown ‘05, McLeod/Yale ‘06). ...Green! Last week, as forecasted in this space, Dartmouth registered its first win since 2003 over an Ivy team other than Columbia or Brown with a 21-13 triumph over Penn. The Premature Mike McLeod Watch: 2,617 yards through 23 games, 40-game projection: 4,551 yards (Clifton Dawson’s Ivy rushing record is 4,840). This season alone, McLeod has 564 yards on 102 carries (what!?) and 12 (yeah, 12) touchdowns. It’s understandable why the Bulldogs run three times as much as they pass—it works. Harvard’s deep receiving corps will look to pick up the slack from the departure of Clifton Dawson ’07. The running game looked fine in the season opener, aided by the scrambling ability of Liam O’Hagan. A bigger question is on defense, where two starters from the defensive line must be replaced for a unit that averaged 4.3 sacks per game last season.
