...Arthur Clare forbids his daughter, Millicent, to marry the lover of her childhood, Raymond Mounchensey because the latter has had a reversal of fortune and picks out Frank Jerningham as a better match. Jerningham is, however, a true friend of Raymond and, when Millicent is sent to a convent to forget her old love, aids Mounchensey in his attempts to steal the girl away.
