Being an American citizen born of American parents and having lived here for the past eight years, I must protest and tell you that I was ashamed of your description of the Royal Visit to Canada...
...roughhouse brawl. They hit with the backs of their gloves, they hit below the belt, they hit after the bell. They spat blood, dripped blood, slobbered blood. It was the sort of fight a reputable U. S. citizen would be horrified to see in a waterfront saloon. Yet last week this primitive performance was billed as a top-notch heavyweight boxing match-staged in New York's Yankee Stadium to select a September challenger for the world's championship. Since then he has never had time to take five years off to become a U. S. citizen. (But in 1928, Princeton classmates paid his passage to their 25th reunion, when Princeton gave him its first degree of Doctor of Philanthropy.) Sam Higginbottom began Allahabad College under a tree, taught husbandry, erosion control which he himself learned as he went along. To replace the sticks with which India's farmers scratched...
