...powerful, and that is why what he thinks is so important. For the Bible is not a tool to be used by left or right. First must come the belief, and then the action, for truly radical change is internal and individual, and only then is it infectious. Christ, says Leonardo Boff in his Latin American classic Jesus Christ, Liberator, is "the one who disconcerts," the "one who provokes a radical crisis." In white America, though, where oppression at least seems to be somewhere else, it will be much tougher to argue the necessity of a theology of liberation, only...

Evangelism involves a personal commitment to Christ as the bridge between flawed humanity and God and the absolver of human sins. In evangelism, the Bible is the sole source of information, belief, and religious philosophy. Evangelists believe that spreading the gospel--as one of the sacrifices they feel is necessary to being a Christian--is a way of life...

...time the center of the world, as it was on the maps of the Middle Ages. As Holy Week starts on Palm Sunday, brown-robed Franciscan monks and white-robed Dominicans march in a long procession of the faithful, each with his own palm frond, along the route that Christ rode on his donkey from the village of Bethany up over the Mount of Olives, past the ancient olive trees in the Garden of Gethsemane and through St. Stephen's Gate into the Old City...

Thou hast redeemed the world," the Franciscan monks chant in Lathi as they lead their flocks through the Arab market, through the 14 stations of the Cross. Past the small Polish chapel that marks the spot where Jesus staggered and fell under the burden of his Cross, past the Armenian church that commemorates his encounter with his mother, past the Greek chapel that honors St. Veronica...

...cynicism about heaven into the act as well. In the most bizarre part of the play, he introduces Wanda June, a 10-year-old girl who has recently arrived in heaven and who describes heaven as a pseudo-country club which everyone's welcome to join. Even Jesus Christ plays shuffleboard there. Wanda June is only tangentially related to the plot: the birthday cake meant for her ends up in the Ryans living room. Susan Morris plays Wanda June with a lot of vitality and youthfulness, but we don't see enough of her; she spends but five minutes...
