...guitar. The fantasy only gets stranger when they leave the bedroom dressed in early medieval European outfits and start walking down the street with a unicorn. The video seems to return to reality (where unicorns do not exist) when McBrayer and Carey share a candlelit dinner. We all know where they’re going to end up after that, right? Wrong. Instead of touching her body as Mariah begs for in the song, the two end up playing with toy cars on top of the dining room table. They finish off their dream date with the scantily-clad Mariah...

Though not as romantic as a candlelit dinner for two, the Magnetic Fields’ concert at the Somerville Theater last Thursday was clearly a Valentine’s Day celebration of sorts, consisting of two impressive sets played to an audience filled with couples. Stephin Merritt, the band’s singer and songwriter, used the occasion to add another layer of irony to his lyrics. This summer there were concerts scheduled across the country, several of them including orchestras with female musicians. At least 3,000 people, among them many women in black chadors, mingled before the candlelit steps of the palace under a velvet sky. ...more different at Sushi + Soul, www.sushi-soul.de. Here shoeless locals and the expats who make up Düsseldorf's expanding Japanese population - the third largest in Europe - enjoy fresh sashimi and piping-hot udon curled up on tatami mats strewn with feather cushions, while others sip sake at a candlelit bar scattered with driftwood. Per-haps most atmospheric of all these waterside eateries is Lido, www.lido1960.de, a glass cube with 360 degree views at the center of a €5.9 million footbridge spanning the harbor. Inside, Bauhaus furnishings and rust banquettes accommodate diners feasting on trattoria-meets-brasserie staples like...
