...cage is at last finished and the men have been using it for about a week, during which time, short as it has been, there has been a marked improvement in their practice. While it is of course too soon to make any definite predictions, Princeton's nine for the present season will at least not prove inferior to many that have preceded it. As far as can be predicted now the personnel of the nine will be about as follows: Mercur and King, pitchers, while it is doubtful who will catch; Ames, Brownlee, Conner and Young all being prominently...
...commenced immediately after the mid-years. At present the men are put through a series of hand dumb-bell exercises and are made to run at a fast pace short distances on the running track in the gymnasium. The most important part of their work is done in the cage. Here much attention is paid to sliding bases and batting, particularly to instill confidence into the men while at the bat. The candidates are divided into squads of four men, each of which has regular hours appointed for practicing hand ball in the cage. Two and perhaps three batteries will...
...class. All the men are at present exercising in a body. They run a short distance every day, besides doing general gymnasium work, using chest-weights, dumb-bells and Indian clubs. Until very recently there was a disposition on the part of the upper-classmen to monopolize the cage, but it is expected arrangements will soon be made to secure it at certain hours for batting practice. In addition to this the men will practice throwing in Lincoln Rink. In comparing the respective merits of the Yale freshman candidates and Harvard candidates, one cannot help but be impressed with...

Strenuous efforts are being made to develop the individual bent of each man, and specified diet and regular hours for exercise are prescribed. The men until recently have been considerably hampered in not having a good cage for practice, but now through the combined subscriptions of alumni and undergraduates an excellent one of large dimensions has been erected. It is to the discredit of Princeton men that subscriptions have been raised, not only tardily, but in such small amounts. Several alumni agreed to donate a thousand dollars provided the undergraduates...
...candidates for the 'Varsity nine are engaged in sliding bases, throwing and catching, and playing hand-ball in the cage. The candidates for the freshman nine are doing the same under the direction of Capt. Bates. The candidater for both teams have been somewhat irregular in their attendance owing to the examinations, but their number is increasing. Owing to the examinations the candidates for the lacrosse team have stopped regular work, but on Monday next both the 'Varsity and freshman teams expect to return to their regular work...
