Most of Connolly's styles reflect traditional Irish dress ("I couldn't design a button anywhere but in Ireland," says Sybil), instead of merely copying the trends of Rome and Paris. She uses native Irish materials, designs many of the fabrics herself, works closely with the Irish weavers, and turns out clothes from $80 to $475. In the middle bracket ($295) is her green velvet, off-the-shoulder "Kinsale Cape" for evening wear. One of the prettiest of the Connolly lot: "Kitchen Fugue," a full-skirted evening dress with stole, made of multicolored Irish-linen kitchen toweling...
...course, if Edwardianism asserts itself as the proper style of masculine dress, there is nothing to do but adopt it. We've readily taken up Chesterfields, so there is little reason for us to resist four or five or six button coats, inverted shoulders, walking sticks, bowlers, and full, flaring capes if they happen to become fashionable...
...shirts, the oxford weave, with the button-down, tab, or golf collar is worn all year. However, don't be fooled merely because a shirt is both oxford weave and button-down: pink is still pink...

Ordinarily, we could point to the opening of Lincoln Downs as a valid harbinger, but it's too late now--the nags have been running for a week and Clocker Spanielle has already lost his button-down shirt. Wellesley hasn't held its Hoop race and Radcliffe hasn't discarded its knee...
...even bother saying all this. For, when the rain does stop and Spring does arrive in Cambridge, the 'Cliffe girl will discard her knee sox and overshoes for short sox and dirty sneakers. The cumbersome raincoat will disappear, and lo!--we will find beneath it the grubby button-down shirt or the over-sized sweater...
