...first eleven in a 16-minute period. This was especially good work, as the line of the second team played low and offered a strong defense. The preliminary practice consisted of starting, passing and falling on the ball. Knowlton was again in the line-up and showed improvement. Burr also held better in the line. The best offensive and defensive playing was done by Nesmith, who secured several excellent dive tackles. Long end runs by both him and Leonard were noticeable features of the practice...

Then the line men were coached in blocking and breaking through and there was punting practice for the backs and ends. The ends went down under the kicks but did not tackle the runners. Burr, Knowlton, Foster and Brill did the kicking, and of these Burr did by far the best work, getting off some remarkably long punts...
