That memory faded out and another took over when Saturday night's cameras cut to the sidelines for a glimpse of Bear Bryant, Alabama's supercoach. A whole cult has grown up around the Bear, and I was part of it. He was such a hero that everyone swore he could beat George Wallace if he ran for governor.
