Professor Bartlett entered Bowdoin College; but before the completion of his course the Civil War broke out and he enlisted in the Union Army, where he distinguished himself by his bravery. He was captured and imprisoned, but an exchange was effected and he returned north. In 1872 he was made an instructor in German at the University, and two years later became assistant professor of German. In 1891 he was made associate professor, but resigned in 1903. From 1891 until 1903 he was regent of the University. Professor Bartlett was not known by any of the present generation of undergraduates...
...dual match on Soldiers Field yesterday by the score of 208 to 179. The light was excellent for shooting but the cold weather and a baffling northwest wind in the faces of the shooters was somewhat troublesome. The best individual score was made by B. M. Higginson '10, who broke 46 out of a possible 50 birds. The Sargent system of traps was used, the birds being sent out with a 16-yard rise, at unknown angles...

MacKay broke through the Indian line on nearly every play, blocking kicks and breaking up interference. Crowley and Browne played well, Browne strengthening the backfield considerably on the defence. Cutler got his plays off smoothly and with good speed, but was slightly outpunted by Thorpe.
