...YEARS AGO, The New York Time characterized Cambridge as a traditional Old World city. Since then, however, much of the local flavor has made way for Boskin Robbin's 3 Flavors and other nation-wide chains. The impending John F. Kennedy Library Center or Boylston St. in the present MBTA yard will further transform the Harvard Square area in the next five years. Over a million tourists a year unexpected to visit the Kennedy Library. Undoubtedly, streets will have to be rerouted to handle new floods of traffic. Coffeehouses and bookstores will flee before an onslaught of hotels tourist shops...
...appreciation of Massachusetts's grant of the MBTA land, will extend over much of the area. Open all parking for at least 600 cars, and more probably 1000, will be provided by the Library. The ceremonial entrance to the Center will stand at the corner of Memorial Drive and Boylston...
...Boylston St., on an alley off from the sidewalk, its stucco rooms are warm in winter and air conditioned in summer. Behind the building is an awninged porch for summer eating which looks out onto a green backyard. The back porch is also the back stoop of the kitchen, and as the kitchen gets hot in summer, the sound of Iberian invective leaping from the frying pan into the fire authenticates the atmosphere...
...decent steaks, Barney's (22 Boylston St.) and Buddy's Sirloin Pit (across from the Brattle Theater) are both good. The Wursthaus (4 Boylston St.) has family fare with a slight German accent (mostly affected), and is a little over-priced. The headwaiter and the waitresses tend to be rude to students. Cesa Mexico (75 Winthrop St.) serves really good fancy Mexican food, but the prices are high. Iruna (56 Boylston St.) is the same story with Spanish fare...

The Pamplona (on Bow St. next to the Underdog) and the Window Shop (56 Brattle St.) are outdoor cafes--the Pamplona's chocolate mousse is very good. Grendel's Den (on Boylston St. across from the Hungry Persian) is a pleasant basement coffee house with canned music and arab food...
