...Boyd-Carpenter was born in Ripon in 1869. He has secured degrees from several English universities, and has worked for a time as a journalist. His chief interest, however, has been centered on social and industrial questions, he having worked for a time with the navvies on railway construction and during the building of the Manchester Ship Canal. More recently he has been engaged as one of the English representatives for the American Institute of Social Service.
