...funeral service of the late Professor Bowen was held in Appleton chapel yesterday afternoon at three o'clock. The chapel was filled to overflowing with the friends of the deceased. The Rev. Late yesterday afternoon it was announced that Professor Francis Bowen had died at his home at one o'clock of heart failure. He was born on September 8, 1811, at Charleston, Mass., and was therefore in his seventy-ninth year. In 1833 he was graduated from the college in the same class with Professor Lovering, Professor Torrey, Dr. M. Wyman, Professor J. Wyman, and the late Dr. George E. Ellis of Boston.
