Died. George Lyndon Carpenter, 75, retired international General of the Salvation Army (1939-46); after an operation; in Sydney, Australia. He joined the Army at 19, rose through the ranks, served autocratic General Bramwell Booth as Literary Secretary for twelve years, until Booth demoted him in 1927 for being too candid in his advice.
