...Bhutan to define economic development policies in the context of "gross national happiness," or GNH. This concept?first coined by the King of Bhutan in the 1980s?is based on the recognition that gross national product does not accurately reflect the wellbeing of a nation. GNH is a bold idea with potentially far-reaching effects. Since happiness has a scientific base, it can be developed and fostered on a larger social scale. Sander G. ...artist, Lauren Greenfield ’87, takes bold color photos that capture the essences of contemporary culture. Composed of both candid and posed portraits of women, the show also presents the written reflections of some of the subjects, juxtaposing their images with complementary musings on beauty, sexuality, and growing up. The texts and photographs, both part of Greenfield’s book of the same title, play off one another to create a powerful message on what it means to be a woman today...

...UOC’s bold move was not the only pressure that Yale administrators felt while debating remaking financial aid. President Levin was due to announce a new aid package soon, in fact, regardless of the protest. That said, the UOC’s success in compellingly presenting student grievances bodes well for other student initiatives, whether at Yale, Harvard, or other schools. It proves that student voices carry weight when aired in the right way, at the right time. Many Harvard groups, from the Undergraduate Council to ethnically- and gender-based organizations, could stand to learn a thing...
