...Killing the Great Chefs of Europe? were really smart, they would have handed the whole film over to Morley. Unfortunately, they use the actor as an appetizer rather than the main course. About half an hour after the picture begins, Morley surrenders center stage to his romantic costars, Jacqueline Bisset and George Segal; Chefs suddenly ceases to be a jolly satire on the cooking craze and becomes an exception ally talky whodunit. The movie soon dies as ignominiously as its title characters - drowning in a stew of ketchup-colored blood and rancid red herrings...

What would she prefer? inquires Anthony Quinn, playing the Aristotle Onassis role. Italian? French? The latter. No problem! he cries. He'll have it flown in daily from Maxim's, though how he expects to keep the white sauce from separating in flight is not clear. But the point is made: we are here in the lap of a luxe so grand as to be unimaginable to us poor mortals who count ourselves lucky...

Tolo is on the set of The Greek Tycoon, the saga of a shipping magnate (Anthony Quinn) who chucks his mezzo-soprano mistress (Tolo) in order to marry the widow of an assassinated U.S. President (Jacqueline Bisset). All fantasy, of course. Tolo (pronounced Taw-lo) described her part as that of "a famous opera singer, a tempestuous, explosive character" who is "not Maria Callas." If there is any resemblance, it is not audible: Tolo cannot warble a note...
