While Mittelbach is in despair he receives a call from an old college friend, Dr. Gehring, who wishes an interview with the senator in behalf of a Miss Petzoldt with whom the senator's son Oscar is in love, much against the will of his parents. Gehring opens the eyes of the young wife, Agathe, to her real duty toward her husband. Agathe's sister, Stephanie, has been in love with Gehring for a long time. After an amusing scene of embarrassing complications, Gehring discovers that he in turn loves Stephanie; but trouble is feared from the senator...

...Princeton and Harvard at the Intercollegiate Chess Tournament Rice was appointed to make arrangements for the match. Owing to the absence of any official, previous to Rice's appointment, properly commissioned to arrange the match there has been some delay in sending the challenge.
