Its treatment of homelessness couldn't be triter, and as in most movies about "our generation," the characters bear little resemblance to today's college students. Like Monty's thesis, "With Honors" is too fundamentally flawed to live up to its name...
These strong scenes, however, are disrupted by the occassional vignette that does not fit in with the rest. For example, a few of the lengthy computer animations and camera pans of inanimate objects bear a strong resemblance to Sesame Street scenes. Accompanied by a fugue or well-chosen cantata, these vignettes aim at artistry, but instead seem to be trying too hard. The visual images are not arresting enough to match the cerebral music that Gould worked so hard to create...

...lurking in the wings is similarly bogus. You have only to look at recent history to see there is no market that has a monopoly on risk or fails to appeal to human greed. What is troublesome is the notion that we must be protected from ourselves and cannot bear the consequences of our individual decisions. The last thing we need is ill-informed legislators decreeing some misguided form of capitalism in which people can take risks but are bailed out by the rest of the populace if things go wrong...
