Professor Hurlbut was born in Shelburne. Vermont on February 10, 1865. He received his A. B. degree at Harvard in 1887 and his A. M. the following year. He worked in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences until 1890 at which time he took over the duties of an instructor in English, receiving an Assistant Professorship in 1901 and a full Professorship in 1906. Captain-elect B. H. Ticknor '31 has been selected by Grantland Rice as center on his All-American Football Team.
