...inches. The second heat had three entries, Rust, Ashe and Briggs. Rust won with Ashe second, it was evident that Ashe was merely trying for a place in the final heat. Time 11 3-4s. The next event, the one mile run, had three entries, Webster, Ayer and Remington. Remington did not come up to scratch, and the race lay between the other two. The first four laps were slow and uninteresting, but the last lap was well and pluckily fought. Webster won in 5m. 31 2-5s. with Ayer a good second...
...hare and hounds run of yesterday resulted in a victory for the hares, Messrs. Norton, '85, and Ayer, '86. The hounds in charge of Mr. White, '85, made a good chase, but were out-witted by the hares. The first four hounds, Messrs. White, Matthewson, Appleton and Robbins, came in the order named and within a few seconds of one another. Mr. Matthewson owing to his handicap drops to fourth place, and second and third prizes goes to White and Appleton respectively. Eleven men were in the run and all the hounds kept well together, until Arlington Heights were reached...

Shortly before the close however, Willard secured the ball and by a very pretty kick from the field scored the final goal. During the second three quarters Ayer was disabled, and was replaced by Carroll. On the whole the tackling of the freshmen was weak, and save a few brilliant individual plays the work of the rush line was not up to the standard. The play of the backs was strong, however, and gained most of the advantage...
