Perhaps this knowledge is what made Coach Roper decide to spend the entire week in trying to bolster up his line and to take such infinite pains with his forward pass formations. At any rate, it seems that the Tiger eleven is pretty successful with this kind of attack. In the second quarter of the Navy game Lourie shot a forward pass of 38 yards to Davis; later he sent another beautifully accurate pass to Raymond for a gain of 15 yards, and several other times during the struggle he sent short heaves which invariably brought the necessary gains...
Unless the Centre eleven develops unexpected power, a straight line plunging attack ought to bring victory. As Yale and Princeton scouts will be watching every Harvard formation eagerly expecting to see them uncover one of their complicated trick plays, the coaches wish to guard the secrets of their offense and consequently will not open up such an attack unless it is a necessity...
...Rutan gets over injuries, there seems no reason why last year's tackles, McGray and Bigler, will be as sorely missed as was expected. Al in all, Coach Roper seems to have done mighty well with his late start: and when the rough edges of the Roper forward-pass attack are polished off, it is hard to see just where Princeton is going to be weaker than last year, Lourie is filling in more than acceptably at quarterback; German and Gilroy, last year's Freshman flashes, are living up to their reputations, and Thompson, all-around athlete, has been...
Coach Sullivan's Dean Academy charges started the seasons in an impressive manner. New Bedford Textile proved an easy victim for their first preliminary game, being powerless before their brisk attack. The next week the Tufts Freshmen bowed to the Dean team, succumbing to the score of 20-0. Up to last week the Academy had been developing fast, steadily increasing a flashing offense and playing good high school football. last week, however, Andover trampled on the ambitions of the eleven, scoring 31 points and clearly demonstrating that the Dean team is not in its usual preparatory school class, though...
...utterly impossible to groom into a winning team. True, St. Bonaventure may have been another of these "mystery teams" that would have its troubles beating one of the Suburban League High School aggregations here, but the fact that Cornell appeared to pack a lightning "express-train" Dobie-like attack gives Ithacans hope that there will be no repetition of last year's farce, when the only hope of score was to get where Shiverick could boot a hasty goal from the field...
