As a Jew who is fiercely proud of the state of Israel, I nevertheless cannot understand how any group within or without Judaism could be "shocked" that Buber has devoted great efforts to the improvement of Arab-Israeli relations. This historic and emotional enmity undermines real progress in the Middle East; only if and when this poison is made innocuous can the Arab nations devote their energies to what is really important...
